Crowns
Our crowns at Lakeview Dental Lab use a variety high quality products including Porcelain Fused to Metal crowns (PFM), all porcelain crowns, veneers, and pressable materials. We use the highest quality porcelain for all of our crowns, which are highly resistant to wear and do not cause allergic reactions the way some metal alloys can. For our metal based crowns, we put a thin coat of gold dust to reduce the grayness seen on most of these crowns. Each crown is custom made to match the rest of your teeth in shade and shape so the crown won't stick out like a sore thumb.(More about Lakeview Dental Lab)What is a crown? A crown is a type of dental restoration used to cap or cover a tooth. When decay is first noticed in a tooth, usually the dentist will try to use a cavity filling to correct it. In cases where there is not enough healthy tooth left or when important parts of the tooth are significantly damaged, a restoration such as a crown is needed to complete the tooth. The crown protects against future fracture or decay. It can also aesthetically improve your smile by covering teeth that are broken, misshaped, or discolored.
What types of crowns are there? As stated above we have several types of crowns. Your dentist should consult you on what material will be used in the mouth. In the case of a PFM, the widest used material is called High Noble metal. It is a purified metal that reduces the risk of allergies and is easier to process. It is more expensive than a semi-precious crown or a base crown. Some dental offices won't use base crowns. They simply are not as pure but they are still quite durable. We highly recommend the all porcelain crown. See our Cerec page for more information on all porcelain crowns.
